In the future...

We will all be driving this....http://www.zapworld.com/ZAPWorld.aspx?id=390 or something like it. Then 35 mpg fleet average wouldn't be so tough.

Speaking of cars, how do you like your newest?

I'll bet I can go farther, and probably as fast, on my bike. It might be safer too, since I can see and hear better, and probably am more maneuverable than this three-wheeled, enclosed vehicle.

If everybody started driving smaller cars, or riding bikes, then it would be a lot safer for everybody.

It's true that if everyone had smaller cars everyone would be safer. According to Physics 101, the smaller the mass, the less energy is dissipated to stop or slow it down. The less energy imposed onto the human body, the less injury involved.

Now, to get everyone into smaller cars, we need to put a tax on motor fuels of -- oh, I'd say about $1 or $2 per gallon! That ought to "encourage" people to quit buying those Hummers and other gas-guzzling SUV's when all they do is drive them around all by themselves instead of carpooling in a VW.

Last I heard bikes are the most efficient mode of travel that exists on planet earth. (This assumes a surface conducive to travel by wheel)
