Kids for Sale

Heidi: (points to sign while driving along country road) "Look! Kids for sale!" (With big grin, looks at Jamey and Arthur in the back seat. They look serious, slightly appalled and a bit apprehensive.)
Arthur: "You want to sell us, don't you?"

That is one of the best retorts ever.

That is too funny! Poor Arthur.

My own experience with the "kid" situation was my Mom, who likely was caught at one time in the same type of humorous scenario. She insisted throughout my growing up that young humans be referred to as children. It is a prevailing memory and indicator too of a sensitivity on the topic possibly akin to Arthur's.

Love the story. Love the children.

I definitely remember our Mom saying that too. Kids were kids and children were children and she was very clear on that difference!! I hope Arthur knows his place is pretty secure.

My grandma Noble always used the term "kiddies" for the same reason. She explained, "kids are goats." I wonder why it is only mothers and grandmothers who care enough to make a distinction.
