Got Water?

At the Clark County Fair last night, I picked up a pamphlet that said Amboy receives an annual average rainfall of 80 inches!! Which means, that if my roof is 40*44 feet, and 80 inches is 6 and 2/3rds feet, the cubic feet of rainwater per year is 11739 cubic feet!! That translates to 87,809 gallons of water landing on my roof annually!!!
Man. I gotta dig a pond.

I have three rain barrels attached to only one downspout on my tiny garage. The three barrels have been filled and emptied twice since June. That's about 320 gallons of water for me, but if we don't get more rain soon, I will be forced to water my plants with tap water.

It's probably a good idea to capture as much roof runoff water as you can, but since the water in my rain barrels got pretty slimy, I would imagine a pond would attract lots of mosquitos and other pond scum.

How about an underground cistern?

Watch out with that pond!!! If the state finds out about it, they will classify you as a wetland and you won't be able to mow your own lawn without consulting them! He he he. Really, study that one, nothing is free these days, somehow, someone will try and make you pay. I'm with Jim (I assume it's him by the tone and suggestions) go underground! Bonne journee, Moi

And plant trout in it!! Brook trout, brown trout, cutthroat, rainbow - just no spinyrays, they are trash fish. Of course you may want to stay with native fish in which case use rainbow or coastal cutthroat.
