First Real Ride

I took Dulcinea for a spin of 14 and 2/3rds very hilly miles.

Going up the hills was predictably difficult; I learned that you can simply stop and catch your breath without dismounting.

Going downhill was a blast, I hit 53.5 mph at my fastest. I'm still getting used to the feel of the vehicle and when going over 40 mph there was some apparent cross-wind action that made me nervous, but I'm guessing that's just one of those things you have to get used to in a new ride.

I still need to work on dialing-in the fit. I'm still bumping knees, toes and heels a bit.

Holy cow!
Your first ride and you cracked 50??

I've only done that once on a long very steep hill...and only just...and it was adrenaline filled I tell ya.

You must feel very very secure inside that thing.

The hill I was going down qualifies as long and steep...and I was nervous, but it never got too shaky. What was most on my mind was the significance of every slight move on the tiller at that speed. It meant that I felt the need to take the center of the lane in order to have leeway to make the turns gently. Taking the lane was no problem though at those speeds.
Getting used to the tiller at high speed will help me feel more relaxed, but I'm not really planning to push past fifty on a regular basis quite yet. 40 is relatively comfortable.

"... 40 is comfortable ..."!!
Wow!! And me who has probably attained a max speed (going downhill with a tail wind) of maybe 22!! And I was nervous then because of potential cross-traffic, since this was down through Bryn Mawr.

The thought of maintaining 40 and reaching -- even exceeding!! -- 50 mph on a bicycle arouses my adrenaline.

And that is hard to do at my age!!

Maybe even dangerous!!

I've been so busy I hadn't even seen your blog! Wow, that thing looks impressive!
I like the color and am glad that it comes with flash indicators.
Looks like you should be in a movie like Spider Man or the "yellow " Hornet!

How fast are you able to pedal, and provide power? Does your speedometer show RPM on the crank? I'm thinking if it's geared like a bicycle, then you probably can't pedal any faster than about 40 mph (at about 110 RPM).

I have yet to give it a real trial on the flat. When I was paying attention on some relatively flat stretches I was only going 16 mph.
I'm pretty sure I can sustain better, but I need to test that.
