How Cold Is It Anyway?

Today's forcast is for snow in Amboy. It's definitely cold and windy outside, with thick ice on the ground. But the clouds don't look very thick yet.
Inside, this morning the new $3 thermometer I bought yesterday said it was 60 degrees F in our living room. My office, where I'm sitting now, is considerably colder than that. That sounds really cold to me, but it didn't feel really cold. So now I have to confirm the accuracy of the thing.

60 is 15.5C and we don't let our house get below 16 and when it gets that cold it is COLD. So...60 is chilly.
You must have been wearing some considerable clothing...like buffalo hide or somesuch.

Yes, my thermometer behind me says 18C and it's fairly cozy here. I dug through the cobwebs in the garage when I got home from work and located my outdoor sensor. I dusted off the sawdust and extra cobwebs and put it back on the shelf near the window where it can "talk" to the main unit in here. It says it's 3.8C out there right now, but that's inside the garage.

The wind has been blowing out of the South, and our water barometer urped up some water, so something wicked this way comes...

It sure was cold this morning: the thermometer on the Volvo said it was 28F. I had to scrape some major frost off the windows before I could leave for work.

James, if you have your floor-based radiant heating system in operation, the air could well be 15.5C [60F] and you [and other warm-blooded individuals living there] could feel quite comfortable.
The nice thing about radiant heat is that it goes directly from the "radiator" [the floor] to the "irradiated" [you and other absorbers in direct line-of-sight receivers].
The walls and ceiling, especially, may also be warmer than the air. All of these objects are much better radiant heat receivers than is air -- or any other kind of gas.
